Important information

Please read the following information carefully as it will help when using the site for the first time.

Buyers

Read the description thoroughly
Before bidding, make sure you read the vehicle's damage description thoroughly and view all the images. The images and the indication of damage should be used in conjunction with one another. Please note that vehicle details, indication of damage and images should not be relied upon as an authoritative statement of condition.

Check the category
Salvage vehicles in Categories B, C and D are categorised as per the Association of British Insurers Code of Practice for the Disposal of Motor Vehicle Salvage. Categories X and U have been introduced by Bluecycle to assist the buyer when purchasing vehicles outside of this. The categories can be defined as follows:

  • B: Heavy damage, chassis bent. Not repairable, to be broken for parts and sold to specially registered buyers only
  • C: Repairable vehicles where the insurer's repair costs exceeded the vehicle's pre-accident value
  • D: Repairable vehicles where the insurer's repair costs did not exceed the vehicle's pre-accident value
  • X: Stolen and recovered vehicles with minimal or no damage
  • U: Vehicles not owned by an insurance company that may have sustained damage.
  • N: Non salvage vehicles taken in part exchange.

Bidding
Remember, a bid is a legally binding offer to buy a vehicle. You cannot change a bid after it has been submitted.

Making a bid
A single bid can be placed by entering the amount in the bid box. When clicking the submit button, you will be asked to confirm the amount you are going to bid. Please check this amount carefully as you will be expected to honour any bids placed.

Proxy bidding
Proxy bidding enables you to bid without watching the entire auction. It allows you to set the maximum amount you are prepared to pay. Your initial bid will be placed just above the current leading bid.If your bid is beaten, another incrementally higher bid will be made. This will continue until either the other bidders drop out, or your limit is reached. If you win the auction, the price at which you win, will be the current highest bid and not the proxy bid limit you placed (unless you are bid up to that amount by another customer). If a vehicle has a set reserve price and a proxy bid is placed, providing the proxy bid is above the set reserve, the proxy bid will place a bid at the set reserve price.

Auto Extension
Auto Extension extends an auction beyond its original closing time if two or more bidders place bids in the last 20 seconds of an auction. Auctions will extend for 20 seconds after the original close time has passed and will continue to extend in 20-second windows until no bids have been placed. Bidders can enter an auto extension even if they have not been involved in the auction previously.

Fees

  • One-off Registration fee of £40
  • Buyer's Premium (BP) is charged at 5.5% of the winning bid, with a minimum fee of £40 plus VAT
  • VAT is charged at the standard UK rate
  • BP is calculated on the NET sales price (price before any applicable VAT or commission).
  • BP is charged in addition to any applicable VAT and debit card fees (1%) or credit card fees (3%) if applicable.

Buyer's Premium is also covered in section 12.3 of our Terms and Conditions.

From 7th July, a Release Fee of £15 per vehicle will be introduced across all yards. This will appear as a separate line on your invoice.

This fee is being added directly to invoices to ensure consistency across all yards and remove any confusion for buyers, as currently the charge can vary from yard to yard.

The only caveat to this, is where a yard is requested to assist with the loading of an HGV for example. In these circumstances the yard will continue to charge a reasonable fee for their services direct to the winning bidder, which will be payable on collection.

Making payments
An auction winner has 2 calendar days from the auction close date to pay for and collect their vehicle. UK customers can pay by credit/debit card up to the value of £6,000, Direct Debit up to the value of £20,000 and Bank Transfer for anything above the credit/debit card or Direct Debit limit.International customers can pay by credit/debit card, Direct Debit (from UK accounts only) and Bank Transfer/CHAPS transfer.

Please note if the vehicle has not been collected within 10 days, the winning bidder is liable for storage

For further information about payment options, please refer to 12.5 of our Terms and Conditions.

To make a payment by credit/debit card, please submit the payment on the site from the order page (click on the order ID number in the My Outstanding Orders list in My Bluecycle). If the purchase price exceeds £6,000, you will be required to make a Bank Transfer payment. Credit/debit card fees apply to all credit/debit card payments.

Paying by Direct Debit (DD)
If you have arranged to pay by Direct Debit, the payment will automatically be taken from your specified bank account. This can take up to 5 working days. The customer is responsible for ensuring sufficient funds are in the account at the time the amount is debited. If the purchase price exceeds £20,000, you will be required to make a Bank Transfer payment.

Paying by Bank Transfer
If you plan to pay by Bank Transfer, please use the vehicle order ID number as the reference to enable us to allocate the payment. You will also be required to contact Customer Services for Bluecycle£s bank details to ensure the payment is paid into the correct account.

Changing your method of payment
Please contact Customer Services on 0844 822 7800.

Collecting salvage
Once payment has been received, the Release Note will be made available and the yard will be authorised to release the vehicle. As per our Terms and Conditions, the vehicle must be collected within 10 calendar days of the auction closing date to avoid incurring storage charges.

The Release Note is sent to you and the salvage partner to confirm they are authorised to release the vehicle. You must give 24 hours notice to the salvage yard to advise them of your intention to collect the vehicle. Please also confirm the yard£s opening hours to ensure they will be open when you plan to arrive.

Check your salvage
At the yard you should always check the salvage to ensure you are satisfied with its condition before removing it from the premises. Removal of the salvage from the yard is your statement that you are happy with your purchase. This applies whether you collect the salvage personally or appoint a third party to collect on your behalf. No refunds or compensation will be discussed after this time.

Dealing with vehicle issues
If you identify any unexpected problems with the salvage, please discuss these with the salvage partner at the time of collection. The partner will then contact Customer Services to discuss the situation. Alternatively, you can contact us direct.

Refunds
Refunds will be agreed where appropriate. Vehicles can only be refused for a justifiable reason. If this reason is deemed unjustified by Bluecycle, we reserve the right to suspend your account pending an investigation by our Customer Service team. Under no circumstance should you refuse a vehicle until you have spoken to us, as this could affect your access to future auctions.
