15/10/09 Category B Car Salvage Update

The reputation of the car salvage industry is crucial to Bluecycle, the online marketplace for car salvage and we are doing all we can to protect and improve it, especially where Category B salvage is concerned.

Two of our main aims are to ensure that Category B vehicles remain in the United Kingdom and that they are only purchased by those customers holding full Waste Management or End of Life Vehicle (ELV) licences.

Other actions we're taking to enhance the industry's reputation include: the way in which we carefully manage Category B applications; licence management and audits; Certificates of Destruction (CoDs); and site visits.

Bluecycle has seen a marked increase in interest in Category B auctions with applications coming from many companies. We continue to maintain strict controls on access to Category B auctions, all buyers must be UK based and possess the correct licences.

Licence Management

Making sure that all Category B customers are correctly licensed is a fundamental process in Bluecycle's business and we maintain a database of all waste licensees.

Reminders are issued approximately 15 days prior to the expiry of any licence and if a copy of the renewal is not received by Bluecycle before the current licence expires then access to Category B auctions is withdrawn.

Certificates of Destruction (CoDs)

In an effort to ensure Category B vehicles cannot be returned to the road, Bluecycle continues to use the DVLA's Certificate of Destruction and on-line service updates for vehicle records. On a monthly basis we select random CoDs for further auditing to ensure customers are completing them correctly.

If the DVLA's on-line system only produces a Notification of Destruction, then customers must fax a copy of this for the attention of Bluecycle's Reputation Manager so that records can be updated. The fax number is: 0207 691 9385.

Site Visits

Visiting our customers and building productive business partnerships is really important to us at Bluecycle. Our Reputation Manager will be visiting many of our Category B customers during the next few months to review recent purchases, inspect motorcycle headstocks, or just to call in to see you for a nice cup of coffee!

These visits are also your opportunity to tell us how we're doing so we value all your feedback, good and not so good. This is essential to help us improve our service to you and all our customers.
