read the description properly
Before bidding, make sure that you have read the vehicle's damage description thoroughly and looked at all available photos. You can click on the images for an enlarged view.

check the category
Vehicles are categorised as per the Association of British Insurers Code of Practice for the Disposal of Motor Vehicle Salvage. Categories are as follows:

category B - Heavy damage, chassis bent. Not repairable, to be broken for parts and sold to specially registered buyers only.

category C - Repairable vehicles where the insurer's repair costs exceeded the vehicle's pre accident value.

category D - Repairable total-loss vehicles where the insurer's repair costs did not exceed the vehicle's pre-accident value.

category X - Stolen and recovered vehicles with minimal or no damage / uncategorised vehicles.

category U - Vehicles not owned by an insurance company, but which may have sustained accident damage.

bid is legally binding
Remember, a bid is a legally binding offer to buy a vehicle. Once you have bid for an item, you will be asked to confirm or cancel the bid. You cannot change a bid after it has been submitted.

you can place a proxy bid
Placing a proxy bid means that you are stating the amount that you are willing to pay for the vehicle, and that if the single bid you place is outbid, that you want an automatic bid to be placed on your behalf up to the amount you have stated.

If you win the auction, the price you win at will be the current highest bid and not the proxy bid limit you placed (unless you are bid up to that amount by another customer).

how do I start bidding?

1: get started - login
To log on, enter your username and password in the login box on the top right hand side of the homepage.

2: featured auctions
Every day, we select some especially interesting vehicles in our featured auctions. You can join in these auctions directly by clicking on the one you want to enter, or you can search our entire list by using the menus at the left and across the top of the page.

3:`my bluecycle´
`my bluecycle´ is your personal account page on the site, where you can keep track of all your past and present bids, monitor the vehicles you have bought, make payments and keep a record of all your bluecycle transactions.

4: viewing the vehicles
The vehicle details and damage description are displayed on a page along with some thumbnail images of the vehicle. By clicking a thumbnail, you can bring up a larger picture in the window above.

5: placing a bid
The current highest bid for the vehicle is shown. To enter the bidding, you should place a higher bid in the box marked `single bid´. Press the `submit´ button, and you will be presented with our terms and conditions. You must press `accept´ for your bid to be entered. You will be told by email and SMS if you have been outbid, and you can then bid again if you choose.

6: proxy bidding
You can also choose to allow bluecycle.com to make bids on your behalf. In the `proxy bid´ box, set the maximum amount you are prepared to pay in the auction and bluecycle.com will make your initial bid just above the current leading bid. If your bid is overtaken, another incrementally higher bid will be made. This will continue until either the other bidders drop out or your limit is reached.
